  • This procedure is straightforward, and very safe.

Step 1: Download The Windows™ Utility

download

Filename: "KeyCarbon USB Windows Toolkit v4.0.0.exe".
Filename: "KeyCarbon USB Windows Toolkit v3.1.0.exe".
Operating System (OS) requirement: Windows 2000/XP. Not tested under Vista.

Step 2: Install the Windows™ Utility

Click "Next" on the wizard, until the software is installed under Windows.

Step 3: Execute the Windows™ Utility

Select "Start > All Programs > KeyPhantom USB Windows Toolkit > KeyPhantom USB Firmware Upgrade".

Step 4: Apply Firmware Upgrade to Device

  • Click "Next" until the utility has upgraded the firmware contained in your KeyPhantom USB.

Troubleshooting

  • For your reference, you can download and install older versions of the KeyPhantom Firmware Upgrade utilities, v2.0.3 and v2.1.2. These utilities only work on Windows 2000 or XP.
  • If your unit is not recognized, you can force it into "emergency firmware upgrade mode" by shorting a pin on the circuitboard at bootup, for more information see emergency firmware upgrade (this page refers to the newer KeyCarbon USB; the same information applies to the KeyPhantom USB).
  • To force a low level reformat of the flash, load v2.0.3 of the firmware into the unit, followed by v2.1.2 (see links above). If this does not work, contact technical support.
